Coming this Spring: InterVarsity is partnering with a number of other student organizations to bring awareness to the global HIV/AIDS crisis. There are several parts to this campaign:

We are asking 5% of the campus to wear a bright orange Tshirt with the word “ORPHAN” on the front. This statistic represents the 1 in 20 children in sub-Saharan Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS.

We will be engaging students around campus in talking about the deeper issues related to AIDS, what God has to say and how we can respond.

We will stand in solidarity with AIDS victims across the world by taking part in a Broken Bread meal, in which we will raise both money and awareness surrounding the issue, as well as discuss how the message of Jesus is inexorably intertwined with the issue of HIV/AIDS.We would LOVE for you to be part of this with us.

To order a tshirt for yourself, your friends or on behalf of your entire organization, order here. If you have any other questions about the campaign, its purpose or how you can be involved, please email us at orangeinfo@intervarsityosu.org.

Coming up the weekend of the February 15th is InterVarsity’s winter conference, which is now called CORSSculture. If you’re already going and are just curious about something - dates, details, what to bring, etc. just call or email Jason, Mimi or Jeff (fix the email address before sending ;). A little bit about this conference from their website:

CROSSculture 08 is a conference about the mission of Jesus on campus. Interestingly, Jesus chooses students and faculty and staff to accomplish that mission, through compelling lives and a compelling message, through love and boldness, and through fervent prayer and the feral presence of God. The theme of this year’s conference is Prayer and the Holy Spirit and we will be looking at the early chapters of Acts to see how the people of God were filled with the Holy Spirit and were given power through Him and prayer to be Jesus’ witnesses to the entire world.

Also let any of the above people know if you are interested in going and haven’t yet registered.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, which is a 40-day period of reflection, prayer, and fasting in preparation for Easter. We are holding an Ash Wednesday service in order to enter into this season and participate in an observance that is practiced all over the world in many different denominations and churches. In the service, we will learn more about the God who gives second changes, begin of the Lenten season, and receive the sign and blessing of ashes.

The stories of Jesus show us more than a historical accounting of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Join us for a single weekend as we take an in-depth look at the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and look intently into questions of Christ’s character, the nature of the gospel, Christ’s authority and love in our lives, living in faith vs. fear, what it means to grow as a Christian, community, ministry, spiritual disciplines and a whole lot more… We will learn and use an powerful method of study called manuscript study.

Mark Study will:
- give you an opportunity to thoroughly familiarize yourself with one gospel
- highlight two to three areas of your life that you would like to work on
- help you know Jesus more intimately
- teach you to learn to love scripture and to study the bible for yourself
- give you a space to interact intimately with your fellow students to build relationships
- still leave you some time to finish your weekend’s homework on Monday (we have Martin Luther King day off )

One final thing to consider: Mark Study is also a way for newer leaders to prepare themselves for ministry for the upcoming year. It is for this reason that all of our leaders are required to go through Mark Study before joining leadership. If you are even remotely interested in leadership, either with InterVarsity at OSU or elsewhere in life, Mark Study is in the first case, required and in the latter, simply invaluable.

Mark Study

Date: January 18th-20th

Location: TBA (somewhere on or near campus)

Cost: $10-15 (whatever it takes to cover food and copies for the weekend)

Info / Signups: email Jeff
